The defining characteristics between hydraulic and pneumatic seals is pressure, with pneumatic seals performing under service conditions where pressure is in the range of 1 to 150 psi. Hydraulic seals on the other hand, are designed for high pressure applications in excess of 10,000 psi. In rotary and reciprocating operations, low friction and high speed are the typical design specification for pneumatic seals.
